Compassion

Sitting here in the sun room with my foot on a stool in front of my wood stove trying to dry out my cast, I began to think. Yes I broke my foot, the result of house work and a wet shower. An honourable wound I figure or justification for all the times I have done nothing. I listened to Saturday Night Live. Not a fan of most of SNL. I listen to one of my favourite musicians, Leonard Cohen played by one of the actors pretending she was Hillary Clinton. As she sung his song Hallelujah, I was touched with both sadness and compassion. In the midst of internet victory roars and calls to finish them off by other parties, I grieved inside. By some, even Christians, the underlining dark satisfaction of revenge fulfilled spoiled the idea of democracy and the oneness of the American people. I put Canada with America and perhaps the world.

​How soon do we forget Jesus's words, "MERCY triumphs over judgement." I am so glad He has had Mercy on me, in the past and every day. I am glad that Jesus prays to the Father for me all the time and not just when I do well. I am learning to rest in His faith for me to learn to love.

People are the pawns of the forces behind them. I guess we have to be reminded again that our battle is not much to do with humanity but these dark forces behind the evil that is done. Very powerful forces pull the strings of God rejecting people and governments they are the true "Puppet Masters" of this world. We are called to bind them where they are, in the invisible realms. So they can't work their plans on earth. Many are they that do not understand this and only see people as the resistance to the Good of God.

This post is a call to all who believe in Jesus to ask Him to help you respond the way He does, all the time, everyday. I hear the words in my heart to have compassion for the lack of compassion many believers are displaying. At a time such as the USA election the very nature of God is on display. Did we show compassion, restraint, peace and love? Will the world know we are Christians by our love for one another. I think so in some communities but not all.

God is a deal maker. No, He did not help write a book for Trump! But who knows, maybe He will and with Hillary too. Lives depend on the attitude that the Church prays. God specializes in using our prayers in the process of redeeming losers and making them great. He made a deal with me almost 40 years ago. Coming from the streets into the church was not easy. I found many ideals I clung to were not the same as I saw practiced. I graduated from Bible college only to find my whole world collapse and I blamed a lot of people. Wounded and hurt I was compelled to journey to Dachu concentration camp in Germany. As I placed my hand on the ovens there came a tender solemn warning; "You could do this." Lest we forgive and live the life of love you may think you are doing it right only to wake up and look back to find your train track of life is full of cattle cars with wrecked lives and ovens of peoples lives you have burned with word and deed.

This is pretty brutal stuff, right? But so is saving a nation from destruction. Here is the deal God made with me and now with you. He asked if I needed mercy. What a question! When you know God is right there where do you hide. "Yes, I need mercy" I choked up as my parade of failures, like naked slaves of shame, drag before the Judge. "Well here is the deal. If you will have mercy on others I will have mercy on you, Dan." Now that's the way to close a deal! He got me.
