It seems like a significant number of believers are biting at the bit. We often use the term, ”biting at the bit” but do we really know what this means? My oldest daughter started riding horses at 10 years old and continued until she went to university. One of the horses she had was absolutely wonderful. She won the Canadian championship on this horse. We loved to see the two of them together. Another horse she had was called Squirrel. Now this horse she bought from the race track. She did not like men. My daughter had a wonderful way with this horse. Not so with me. She would walk the track calculating moves and jumps. I was left holding holding Squirrel. With the skittish horse dancing on the end of a rope, I held onto with all my might.
How does one work with a nervous horse? 1000 pounds of volatility? It is with firm kindness and a bit in the horses mouth.
Zeal without wisdom and knowledge is extremely destructive. This results in weariness, financial drain and down right confusion. There is this saying in the realm of training a horse, ”fighting the bit.” Squirrel needed to have a harsh bit until she settled down. A bit is an apparatus that fits in a horse's mouth used to control the powerful animal. After “fighting the Bit,” the horse would require a less harsh bit that was easier on the mouth. The goal for some is to work with the horse until it does not need a bit at all. The horse would learn commands through voice and leg movements. It is like training your dog to walk beside you without a leash. No easy task. I know this very well.
In this year 2018 it is extremely important to know how far we are allowed to go. We still have a bit in our mouths. I have walked with many young and old leaders. Some of them were just ripping for a fight against the dark realm yet their inner character was a lesser match for the organized, kingdom of darkness. They simply are not ready.
The analogy of a bit in the church’s mouth is perfect. How do I know this? I have fought the bit till my mouth was full of froth and even blood, forced me to realize I wanted to go to war without first entering His Rest.
This absolutely is crucial and will probably ruin someone's day. Itching for a fight? The major qualification is all to do with entering His Rest. What does this mean? It is a state of being that no longer needs a bit in our lives to keep us from of "biting off more than we can chew or a war we are not yet ready for.” We must have the wisdom to know it is not us who won the battle against the powers of darkness, but it was the Lord. If we do not want to fail and reap destruction on ourselves, we have to learn to enter His rest and cease from our own labours.
At the moment we must still fight against the world, the flesh and the devil. 2018 is the year God works an obedience in us that a bit will not be needed. In 2019, we will begin to fight greater dark powers. Eventually, together in unity, we will crowd out the powers of darkness out of the unseen realm. We will eventually, in the Lord, rule and reign in the very realms where the father of all lies had established his stronghold.
Restrain yourselves. Quiet yourselves. Take an honest evaluation of where your state of being is. Your home and church depends on us to know and live in His Rest.
If we do not enter His Rest we will not be able fight the fight coming in 2019.
I am learning that before I lead others, I must be broken from my own energy or drive. A great many leaders are striving in their own strength. They will be a casualty rather than an asset. Sadly, zeal without wisdom has been the greatest downfall of the church. This will not have a place come 2019 and on.
Blessings upon your journey in the Fathers Heart.
