As I look out my living room window upon Lake Ontario, the calm waters shimmer with the light of the almost full moon. It is peaceful. The last few days she was ferocious and wild as only the Great Lakes of North America can be. We watch as in the distance the large tankers slowly come to the harbour, a number of kilometres west of us, to load up with dry concrete powder at the huge lak side plant. It is hard to believe the anger of a storm can churn waves violent enough to break these massive floating steel wonders like the the Edmond Fitzgerald. Thanks to the ballad written and preformed by our famous Canadian Gordon Lightfoot, the world has learned of one of the lakes most famous tragic maritime disaster. But tonight she is siren. Across the lake, on the other side there is another type of storm. A tempest far more destructive than what nature can throw at us through earth, wind or fire. Across this watery expanse is the United States of America, the economic engine of the world. There is a political war for her very soul and destiny, a war that will change the existing tenure of the world. It grieves my heart every time I hear my fellow Canadians slander this imperfect world power. I have felt ashamed as high level Canadian politicians spew school yard insults at this powerful nation, the very nation who out of it’s own coffers has at great expense protected us from potential attacks by aggressive nations. Many of the accusations of American imperial conquest is untrue. A German friend told me many war and post war stories. As his eyes began to to drift into back into memories etched deep and permanently into the distant past, I was surprised to hear him say about the USA, “never has a nation given so much to end up so hated.” The greatest surprise he had in his life as a young German was when they were starving and beaten down, they thought the Americans soldiers were coming to finish them off instead they fed them. United States is not by any means a puritan, but neither is Canada. One only has to look at what we did to our First Nation People.
I, unashamedly am a Christian. I have been one since 1972. I am however ashamed at many thingS we as the church have done and also proud of some of it’s finer moments. I ponder the question, will we fail to have compassion for our crippled southern brother or join the international mentality wanting to see her falter and crumble? Big news, in case you did not know, if the States go down, so do we. There seems to be a blind prejudice to this clear unmistakable reality. The only way darkness can grow in our world is when the church has lost it’s light. It is wake up time. This emerging church will win. It was the early church’s Love and sacrifice that changed 400 years of Roman rule. The Pax Romana, Roman Peace by the sword, caved to the Love found at Cross of Jesus Christ. Let’s not find ourselves on the wrong side. Put aside your differences. Join me and many other believers. Let's let Heaven hear us together praying;
We must stand against verbal and occult curses and slander emanating from powerful war like people with dark agendas. Lastly I must say, perhaps most important is this: GOD HAVE MERCY. Standing with you America from across the lake. Dan
